Kate Kunkel has enjoyed careers as a writer, a harpist, and a TV talk show host. But her most important job developed from her desire to prevent what happened to her mother from ever happening to anyone else. Seeing the devastation that dementia wreaks has made Kate a passionate advocate for prevention of this terrible disease. By researching and creating a program to prevent dementia, Kate has made it her life’s work to educate and empower people to take control of their lives and save their brains. She believes that Losing your Mind is a Choice.
1. There’s no reason your brain has to decline as you get older
2. Myth: Brain games will prevent cognitive decline. The only way a brain game can help if it’s something that’s new to you
3. Myth: memory loss is the biggest symptom to worry about. Rather, look out for personality changes, loss of sense of smell and new cravings for something sweet.
4. Myth: my brain is going to slow as I get older. Are you experiencing symptoms of cognitive decline or is it time to look at your environment?
5. Every time we use a mind-altering substance, we’re also altering our brain
6. Joy is a huge part of a mindful and happy brain
7. We can actually change our brains – we can turn them around after injuries and damage
