Short Bio
Stephan Neff is an anaesthetist, bestselling author, speaker, show host and alcoholic in recovery. After studying medicine in Heidelberg, Germany he travelled and worked in Europe and Australia before settling down with his family in beautiful New Zealand. As a retired pain physician, he developed a specific insight into human psychology. As a man trying to drown his sorrows, he found out the hard way that the critters can swim. But over the last 7 years, he made every day a little bit better than yesterday. Today Stephan is an expert in living a life so fantastic, that alcohol has simply no role to play. He shares this passion through his podcast and YouTube channel STEPS TO SOBRIETY – INTO THE LIGHT. In his book “Steps to Sobriety” he shares the lessons he has learned as a doctor and as a man. And the truth is simple – The past does not equal the future. Every addict can turn his life around, one little decision at a time. His books and his show how to do it.
Possible questions for your interview
1. How scary was it for you to come out of the closet, so to speak? A doctor who openly admits to be an alcoholic?
2. Where is the best place to hide a bottle?
3. You mentioned that life as an alcoholic is exceedingly busy. What do you mean with that?
4. You are talking about Alcoholics Anonymous. Isn’t that only for people who really believe in God? I have heard it’s a cult.
5. You are talking about “Your steps to sobriety”, but the 12 steps of AA are only a part of your book. Have you created your own system?
6. If someone buys your book, can you guarantee that they will get sober and stay that way?
7. What is the one key message you want our listeners to take away from this interview?
In addition, I am very happy to talk about the reasons why I tried to numb my pain. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, type A personality, to mention a few.
