173 Survival Tuesday: Theresa Carpenter – Stop Playing Victim and Start Loving Yourself
/

I talked with Theresa Carpenter, an active duty U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander on how she let addictions control her life for decades, but in her 40s decided to expect more out of life by letting go of perfectionism and embracing her quirky, unapologetic self.
Theresa Carpenter is an active-duty Navy Lieutenant Commander where she has served for the past 25 years. Her passions include helping military women succeed and the professional development of the craft of public relations. As an introspective writer, she muses about the human experience for her blog, Theresa’s Tapestries. Tapping into her love of storytelling through the visual medium, she runs a YouTube channel with her husband where they share their experiences with saving money, DIY projects, traveling, and enjoying time together. Her latest endeavor is her podcast S.O.S (Stories of Service), which features ordinary people from all walks of life who show up in service to their communities. She lives in Norfolk, Virginia with her husband Harry and their Boxer dog Jayda, who also has her own social media presence on Instagram.
3 top tips for my audience:
1. Be yourself – nobody else has your unique skills, talents and personality
2. Addictions control you – don’t let anyone or anything define who you are
3. Surround yourself with a positive and loving tribe (even if you did not grow up with one)
