188 Dylan Lundgren – How Self-Expression can lead to lasting and fulfilling recovery
/

Dylan is a TEDx Speaker and Addiction Recovery Advocate. His mission is to work with individuals and organizations to increase engagement in the addiction recovery process and improve long-term outcomes. He also likes to dance and do karaoke.
In Dylan’s words:
“Addiction is a chronic state of isolation, disconnection, and suppression. We can liken it to living in the dark. When we are living in the dark, we are living in an absence of light; of information. Expression is the road on which we reconnect to ourselves and the world. It’s the way in which we turn the lights back on. By creating a safe culture for authentic expression, we make it possible for therapeutic experiences to occur. These experiences, grounded in self-expression, and contained in a safe way, drastically improve metrics associated with recovery: connection, vitality, wellbeing.”
3 top tips for my audience:
1. Expression is the antidote to suppression (and disconnection)
2. Expression happens in the body, not the mind
3. Community is an essential ingredient
